Dikoma and Moropelo: A Cultural Festival from Bushbuckridge
In Bushbuckridge, where Mapulana and Tsonga people take this practice very seriously, the culmination of the initiation is called Moropelo—a grand celebration akin to a graduation. The schools typically run from June to August, as the cold, dry winter months reduce the risk of infection. There are three main events associated with the schools: the initiation entry, the closing of admissions, and finally, the return of the initiates, marked by Moropelo.
Initiation schools are deeply spiritual and often shrouded in mystery. They are typically led by traditional healers or respected figures in the community. While some boys are sent to school by their parents, others, driven by curiosity, might run away to attend. When a boy enters an initiation school, a delegation visits his family to notify them. This delegation often arrives in a large, boisterous group, carrying long sticks, some up to two meters in length, and singing loudly. The family is expected to pay for the boy’s attendance and provide supplies, such as maize meal, blankets, and tuition fees....................
A Woman with a Beard
One of the things I always cherish about my culture is that elders give advice, even when it's not solicited. The saying "it takes a village to raise a child" seems to have been inspired by observations of my own village. My culture can be intrusive, often driven by gossip, but there's also a tradition of offering guidance, especially from male elders. They will ask why you're not married, why you're not working, and they will caution you about certain types of women to avoid......
Statistics have become an integral part of all sports, but in football, it is a current phenomenon compared to other sports. In fact, football is often the latest to incorporate technology in the sport. VAR was first trialed in 2016, officially used in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, and widely adopted starting with the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but cricket had similar technology from 1992. Goal-line technology was first used in a competitive match in December 2012 during the FIFA Club World Cup and widely adopted in the English Premier League in the 2013-2014 season, while tennis had similar technology introduced in 2006. Football is often late to adopt technology in the sport, but to give credit where it is due, football was the first sport to introduce data tracking of players.
In my analysis of why football doesn’t adopt technology or change rules as often as other sports, it comes down to three reasons.
Why Football Adopts Technology Late and Is Reluctant to Change Rules?

Attention: The most expensive commodity
The world is incredibly connected, and due to this connectivity, everything moves at an accelerated pace. Innovation and cultural shifts are improving exponentially, which poses a compelling question: Are we as a human race catching up with innovation, or is innovation catching up to us? This mirrors the classic dilemma of whether art imitates life or life imitates art.
Beyond easy access to fast food and delivery services, technology now enables anyone to cook a full-course meal without any culinary skills. All you need to do is browse the internet for a recipe, use a grocery app to order ingredients that will be delivered in less than 30 minutes, and utilize advanced kitchen equipment that takes care of peeling, chopping, and mixing. Throughout this process, your role is merely that of a coordinator: placing ingredients here, combining them there. Modern thermal stoves can adjust the heat when food is at risk of burning, or you can set a timer and forget about it.
If it rings, you sing it.
One of the most difficult conundrums that university lecturers face is how to discipline and maintain order in the classroom. Most undergraduate students are young adults still trying to find their identity, making disciplining them challenging. As someone who has attended three universities and has some teaching experience, I can attest that there's nothing as annoying as a distraction during class. For those of us passionate about our subjects, talking about them feels like performing on stage, where even a minor distraction can throw us off our game.
The two most common distractions in lecture halls are latecomers and cell phones ringing. I have witnessed various techniques that my former lecturers implemented to avoid these forms of distractions: asking students to switch off their phones or put them on silent, locking the door to prevent latecomers from entering, and humorous approaches like making latecomers present to the whole class. Human ingenuity knows no bounds...........................................
The reality is that there will always be a clash between generations. The perspectives of Baby Boomers and Millennials will differ, as will those of subsequent generations. This clash of perspectives usually results in a generational war of culture and beliefs. As time evolves, different perspectives on culture, religion, and economics emerge, even if the population shares the same genetics. These three elements shape society in general and give rise to values
The economic perspective is very difficult to argue for or against because it is complex and deals with the lives of people in general. Elements such as hunger, healthcare, and education in society are directly influenced by the economy. Different countries have different economies, leading to varied outcomes in how these countries function.
The more I learn, the more I realize that elders were correct.
The truth that underpins our understanding of success is simple yet profound: achieving it requires commitment. Common wisdom attributes success to skill or talent, which is not untrue. However, honing such skills or maintaining talent demands effort over time. This journey towards success often involves long hours of work and focus, usually in solitude or with a few comrades united by a common goal.
In reality, successful individuals in any field constitute less than one percent of their industry and an even smaller fraction of society as a whole. Consider football: FIFA boasts 211 member nations, yet only eight have ever won the World Cup. Similarly, while almost every country has organized football leagues—with England alone hosting up to seven tiers of football organizations—only a select few players achieve the status of playing for top-tier teams in the Premier League.
